Because I Can’t Write A Novel – Day One: The Introduction

because-i-cant-write-a-novel-day-one-the-introduction

I really wanted to take part in #NaNoWriMo, and I did really well until the second week of the month hit and all my monthly struggles came at once. That and the fact that I have the attention span of a goldfish meant that my novel-idea didn’t last very long. With boyfriend drama, ex-boyfriend drama, non-paying clients (a real pain in the ass when you’re self-employed), Bestie trouble, house stress, mobile phone issues, and the fact that Christmas is just around the corner … Can you blame me for going a little off-track? And then my blog broke. My therapy. My outlet. It broke. I honestly lost my shit.

I decided, seeing as I’d basically written a blog post every day for the month of November (or at least a bunch of ranting words) that I would change the rules for #NaNoWriMo. Am I allowed to do that? Ah well, it’s not like my novel would have been any good if I’d finished it off. I know there’s a book inside me somewhere. I just don’t know what it is. Or how to go about finding it.

But in the spirit of seeing if I could keep to my 1,667 word count, to get to a total of 50,000 at the end of November, I wrote a post per day throughout the whole of the month. It soon became very apparent that my novel wasn’t going to hold my attention span for very long, but I felt like I wanted to be a part of it all anyway, so I wrote a blog post per day. Each one is roughly 1,667 words long, or there abouts, but at the end of November, I will have written 50,000 words for my blog.  Some posts might be longer, some might be shorter, and looking over some of the stuff I’ve already written, it’s a weird and wonderful mix of mind-farts as usual.

I have decided to post each of these daily blog posts, musings if you like, throughout December – once per day, in the morning*, alongside my regular posts. And, because I appreciate one post every day PLUS my regular blog posts is a LOT of reading, they’ll all be in their own category, safely stored for you to come and read them at your leisure. That’s right, I really have thought of everything! You can find that category link here: Because I Can’t Write a Novel

Why?

Well, because I want to. Plus, I found myself going back and working through some of those older blog posts I’d started and never gotten around to finishing, so as far as I’m concerned, I’ve accomplished something.

Also – if I can write 50,000 words – 1,667 words per day – throughout the month of November for my blog, surely I can write 50,000 words in a novel someday? Perhaps I’ll make that my goal for November 2017 when NaNoWrMo comes around again.

So … I hope you like them. Today is Day One.

See you again tomorrow morning xo
